DELTA EXPANDS FACILITY TO ACCOMMODATE MORE AND LARGER PROJECTS...

Seattle, January 2005—Delta will complete construction of a new high-bay manufacturing and assembly building early in the first quarter of 2005. The new building is part of a three-phase expansion project that began in 2003.

Phase one of the expansion included the installation of a 400-ton Marine Travelift and boat lift pier to service the increasing demands of the Refit and Repair Division. Phase two includes the construction of a new high-bay assembly building, the addition of seven acres of land and the purchase of state-of-the-art machinery and equipment. Phase three will complete the project and include new offices for the in-house Delta Design Group, project management and the Refit and Repair Division. The entire project will increase total acreage to twenty-five acres and total enclosed manufacturing space to over 275,000 square feet.

The new building will measure 360’L x 126’W x 86’H and serve both the new construction and refit divisions. Delta’s new construction schedule includes some of the largest yachts to be built in the United States since the 1920’s. With projects continuing to increase in length, this new building will allow Delta to commission projects, both new construction and refit, up-to 100 meters.

In addition to larger projects, the new building will allow Delta to accommodate more projects simultaneously. Equipped with two 15 ton bridge cranes, fully operable rolling doors at both ends and the latest in air handling and ventilation, the building will accommodate up to four 50 meter projects at one time and nearly double the total capacity of the facility.

Function and flexibility are at the heart of this project. “The design focused around increased efficiency and the best working conditions possible for our employees,” said Ivor Jones. “We built a balcony extending the entire length of the building at boat deck height”. The balcony, with workstations for marine carpenters, mechanics and electricians will allow the workers to move parts and equipment easily onto the vessel during construction. These stations will be fully enclosed to keep dust out of the building and the vessel itself. In addition, a complex air handling system has been designed to control the temperature of the building and also control the temperature of the working condition inside the vessel. “We will be able to heat the yacht in the winter months or keep it cool in the summer,” says Jones.

Phase two also includes the addition of seven acres of land adjacent the facility. This property will be used for the future expansion of trade workshops and provide an immediate solution to the increasing demands of the Refit and Repair Division. The Refit and Repair Division will be able to increase its boat storage capacity, have more covered area to work on vessels and will gain a second Travelift pier to accommodate smaller vessels up to 50 tons. This addition will provide it a working environment that again, lends itself to function and flexibility.
