Delta's New 163' Composite Expedition Yacht

Seattle, Washington...

Delta Marine will complete construction of a new 163' foot motor yacht this summer. This massive expedition style yacht, with full ABS classification, will have a 31'6" beam and 9' draft. Powered by twin Caterpillar 3508 engines, the yacht will have a 6000 nautical mile range at 13 knots.

Inspired by the owner’s passion for underwater exploration and documentation, the yacht is equipped with sophisticated sonar and bottom mapping systems that photograph the ocean floor and store the information as 3-D maps. This equipment facilitates navigation as well as pin pointing wrecks and reefs. The yacht has a dive shop with a multiple-capability compressor and an efficient dive platform. In addition, there is a video editing studio for archiving the family’s adventures and discoveries.

The Delta Design Group executed the entire engineering package, from naval architecture to interior design. The result is a racy looking, full displacement yacht with a serious cruising range and outstanding design.

Four decks of living and entertaining spaces include a hot tub for relaxing, two elevators, one of which takes guests safely to the crow’s nest for spotting fish, and even a helicopter-landing pad. Two 24-foot tenders are stowed aft, deployed with overhead gantry cranes. An additional 6000 lb crane on the upper deck lifts tenders or heavy items onboard. To provide the ultimate in sound and vibration control, the engines are soft mounted and the interior accommodations are floated on a rubber brushing system to decouple the woodwork from the yacht structure.

The interior, both elegant and stylish, features a full-width master forward, hardwood floors throughout the main salon and a spacious gym aft of the engine room. This impressive, seaworthy design will travel in safety and comfort to the far reaches of the ocean.

At over 50% complete, the hull is rolled out of the hangar. This is one HUGE piece of laminate! Notice the diameter of the bow thruster gullet in reference to the men standing nearby. This thing could make chum out of sperm whales!
