I am getting soot inside the salon, not bad but film. Any suggestions?

If you mean that soot is entering from the outside exhausts, it usually comes if you have a backdoor open, creating an underpressure when underway. With a forward hatch or door open as well, this will go away. If your soot is coming from the engine room, you have a problem.

If it's inside the salon you're breathing it. NG. How's your transom. If dirty close salon door. You may just have a smoker. If it's clean you probably have an exhaust leak. Check first by the turbos and the manifolds. Stay out of cabin while running until source is found.
As pointed out by AMG remember that all boats suffer the "station wagon effect". You must keep ventilation running fore to aft (close salon door while running or exhaust will be sucked in).

Thanks for the replies! Salon Door is closed, no exhast leaks, verified by Volvo, no soot in engine room or bilges. Transom does have soot, so must be getting in through vents somehow. Can't find where though.

Also check your crankcase breather and filter. Maybe if you pre-pressurise the engine room before firing-up (we used to wait for our ears to 'pop' before starting).

Are you running with your engine room blowers on? Many builders do not design enough ventilation for air gulping diesels, and having a exhaust blower pulling air from the engine room makes it worse. At idle speed it is good to have exhaust blowers on, but not at cruise for many boats.
Check around the edges of floor hatches and where the bulkheads meet the floor. If you see dirt stains, the engines are pulling air in from places other than the vents.
One remedy is to add a blower to bring air into the engine room. However some Carvers already have intake blowers, check yours and make sure which way the blow, in or out, and that they are functioning properly.
