First Calixas C2 Sold

Calixas Yachts have confirmed the sale of their first model, the C2. The first model went off to the Med onboard Dockwise transport's new Yacht Carrier, the 658.50 foot Yacht Express.

Calixas Yachts have also confirmed the current construction of the second C2 model. The new vessel, hull 501020 will have a projected delivery in Summer 2009.

Calixas Yachts have highlighted other models that they have in the development stages including the C3 and C4 models. These vessels are classed with MCA, DNV/ISO certifications.

That's unfortunate.

I really liked their designs and their build process and level of detail was truly outstanding with regards to parts and components being individually labeled and accounted for in the ships management software and schematics. I think their boats had a great look to them, both interior and exterior.

On paper and in show, they were great boats, but I have no idea on reliability. Was this a sign of the times or issues otherwise internal or external to the company?

I really liked the looks of the Calixas yachts. What a shame to lose another boat builder.

I believe they only sold the one boat. I think I read or gathered in conversation with them that they had another hull in the mold or was being sent for finishing, and was out of the mold. However I don't know if that is or was accurate and if that made 2 complete boats sold. I know they had some drawing board changes to hull number 2 from the GA plans I saw some time back.

They had some really cool technology, but one or two boats doesn't keep the doors open.

Yep, I was thinking along the same lines, the "Nazar" was the only one sold, did alot of PR for them but no other boats launched that I knew of, so maybe they couldn't stay afloat to compete with the harsh economic environment.

That would be my guess, and perhaps a fair (unknowing) assessment.
I still think for some reason there is or was a hull #2 out there that didn't splash. Curious what ever happened to it. (if it did exist)

Maybe they'll pick back up at some point in the future or someone will come in with an infusion and restart operations at a later date where there is more of a market upside.

Yep you are right, they had a page on site regarding hull #2.

Really the page still accessible via direct link:
http://www.calixas.com/C2GApop.html
and http://www.calixas.com/hullCalixasC2.asp

Maybe they did not find new buyer and had to close down.

It's definitely a shame... there was a whole lot about their expedition yacht that I really liked.

Thank you! I knew I wasn't losing my mind (yet).
I recall it was a Russian gentleman who bought hull #1 and I recall seeing it listed for sale some time ago. I wonder if he sold it, or is still using it. I don't see it in brokerage listings anymore.

men! i liked that C4 hull - i mean not that i'd have ever had the money to buy it, but i really wished to see that one in the water ... well, if someone likes that boat, maybe he buys the plans and builds it himself

Hull # 1 and hull # 2

Hull #1 is in Turkey. Hull # 2 is listed with Horizon Yachts and is now called the Premier Explorer 105 built by Premier Yachts. She is also listed at $9.5 million. New.

Hull # 1 was built by Premier Yachts in Taiwan, a division of Horizon Yachts.

Admin Edit: Brokerage links removed.
