Erratic Fuel gage 2001 cabo 35 express

    sometimes it works, and other times it stays on full...
    last fill up was on 1/4 and I filled it and it just stayed on 1/4..
    tank unit was replaced...anyone got any ideas??

    Connect the two wires together on the sender (on top of the tank inside the rear cockpit deck hatch, see if the gauge pegs. If it does not, it's either the wiring or gauge. If it does not peg, jumper the two wires together on the fuel gauge.....if it does not peg at this point, it's in the wiring.........assuming there is power going to the gauge.

    thanks for the reply the gage has 3 wires 12 volt wire,sender wire and ground so which two do I jump together?

    Touch the sender wire to ground it will make the gauge show full. You can take the sender out and move the float and the gauge should change. Check the ground on the tank sender.

    Still have issues, three wires on the gage and three on the sender...the sender is a tube type,in other words no external float....so if I ground the sender wire at the tank, it should go to full??

    First, try and find out whose sender is installed then look at that company's troubleshooting and installation information.

    Shorting and grounding things without a real idea of what you have is not a great troubleshooting technique.
