The 140' Sea Owl Lands at Burger...

Burger Boat Company, Manitowoc, Wisconsin, U.S.A. — Ever since Burger Boat Company announced their commitment to reconstruct and retool its shipyard to design and build only fully-classed and MCA certified megayachts primarily in the 115 -180 foot (35m-55m) size range, the Company has secured an impressive order book. Within the last sixteen months, six truly remarkable orders have been added to the roster. In 2006, Burger will launch the 144' Tri-deck Mirgab V which will debut at the 2006 Monaco Yacht Show and the largest boat in the Company’s history, the 154' Tri-deck Time for Us which will debut at the 2006 Ft. Lauderdale Boat Show. In 2007, the Company will launch two identical 127' Tri-decks, Areti I and Areti II; a classic 1920’s style 143' Fantail Cruiser Sycara followed by Sea Owl, a stunning 140' Tri-deck.

Sea Owl is being commissioned by an experienced yachting family from Long Island, New York. Though the family is well versed in developing and managing projects of great magnitude, this is their first custom yacht design and construction project. The Owner states, "We first experienced the serene pleasure of yachting aboard a friend’s Burger. Since then, we have visited many boat yards and toured many boats, contemplating the ideal yacht. Repeatedly, we have returned to Burger, drawn by the extraordinary craftsmanship, the dedication of the workforce, and the family atmosphere inspired by David and Katie Ross."

Over the last six months, design elements, engineering and construction drawings have been developed and fine-tuned. The project officially “kicked-off” with a Keel Laying Ceremony on October 15, 2005. Many employees and their families shared in the festivities with the owner’s party and watched as the first weld was completed by the owner.

Sea Owl is the result of an impressive collaboration between the Burger Design Team, Vripack Engineering and Andrew Winch Designs. “We are very proud to be working with Burger on the exterior and interior design of the 42.7m motor yacht, Sea Owl. This classic family motor yacht, being built for a charming and experienced yachting family, will have a nautical and traditional interior for a contemporary lifestyle. This will hopefully be the first of many projects between Andrew Winch Designs and Burger Boat Company as they celebrate 142 years of quality yacht building,” states Andrew Winch. This full-displacement Tri-deck will be configured with a transom garage for the tender and water toys, outfitted with a fog-mist sprinkler system, zero-speed stabilization and will utilize the ultra high strength, highly corrosion resistant marine alloy, Alustar.

She will be powered by Caterpillar engines rated for continuous operation and engineered with all state-of-the-art mechanical and electrical systems. David Ross, Burger’s President & CEO adds “We are extremely honored to have been selected to create this truly spectacular world-class yacht. With its extensive collection of remarkable features, there is no question Sea Owl will significantly raise the bar for all custom motor yachts in its size range. We are especially delighted to have the opportunity to work with Andrew Winch to create this masterpiece for such a lovely family.”
Sea Owl is not intended for charter, but will be enjoyed by family and friends as their plans include extensively cruising distant ports around the world.
