Recently, I spent a little time with Mac McLaughlin from Broward Marine, as he took me on a bare-bones tour of the new Broward 120'. On a previous visit to the yard in June of 2005, the first 120' was merely a hull's shell, as the superstructure was yet to be added. As you'll see in the following pics... it is progressing along nicely.

Approaching the structure from the 3rd level of Broward's shed, the 120's boarding ladder isn't quite as fancy as those found transversing the docks at Bahia Mar... but it works equally as well.

As we walk closer to the structure, you begin to get a feel for the enormous amount of labor still ahead. These are the preliminary stages of welding, grinding and shaping... and repeat as needed.

Standing on the aft deck, looking forward into the salon. Notice the railings in the foreground? The next picture is the reason...

Immediately beneath our feet and surrounded by the railing is a temporary grid to protect workers from falling into the engine room below. This cut-out is purposely left open to allow the engines to be dropped in after the basic structure is completed. If you study the picture closely, you can see the raised sections on the main stringers that will become the engine mounts.

Here's a better angle on the engine mounts, taken from within the engine room. The horizontal beams are only temporary, as are many pieces at this time.

Getting back to the main deck, this picture is looking forward at what will become the dining area, and just forward of this is the raised pilothouse.

In front of the pilothouse, we enter the on-deck, forward master stateroom. It's much larger than it looks in these pictures.

Going below to the lower deck, these portholes will illuminate the guest suites...

Moving forward, the bow appears to be built well enough to break ice...

Exiting the caverns of the lower deck and going three flights up, this picture is looking forward over the whirlpool that will no doubt be the center of attraction when a guests looses her inhibition.

A few steps forward of the whirlpool, the seating (which was previously finished) has been welded to the decks and the flybridge helm is beginning to take shape.

But wait... there's more! Hull #2 is beginning to take shape directly behind hull #1. Henry Ford would have been proud. Thanks to everyone at Broward for allowing us to witness a lot of hard work, from behind our keyboards.
