Mediterranean: Côte d'Azur

The most popular place on earth for megayachts must be the Côte d'Azur. I've cruised this coastline a few times and have been at the famous ports of Saint Tropez, Cannes, Antibes and Monaco. I like the area very much and it still is a wonderfull cruising area. The only real disappointment is that it is getting very crowded. In high season, July and August, the ports are full of yachts every day. This is nice to see as a yacht enthousiast, but it is not so nice when you're cruising the area and want a place to stay at the end of the afternoon. It is getting very difficult to get a place with a bigger boat. You should be at a port early in the day to get a berth for the night. The less famous ports still do have space though. What's your experiance with this? How do you like the Côte d'Azur as cruising ground?

A less famous port is that of San Remo just beyond the border in Italy. It is very big and can host big yachts as well. I've got some pictures of it from august 2003. First you see something they seem to have at more ports in the area: a Mangusta quay. A serie of Mangusta 80's.

Some extra yachts are entering the port. Two yachts are berthed at the large quay, the Feadship Kisses and the Hakvoort Campbell Bay, and one is heading to her own berth, the Broward Cocoa Bean.

Campbell Bay is a very nice yacht. She might not be the biggest yacht at 147 ft, but she is really stunning to see.

The Feadship Kisses was entering at the end of the day. I saw here a few more times that week at several places in Italy.

Something you don't see often: a megayacht registered in the Netherlands. And even in Rotterdam. Uniwest is 43 m and built by SIAR & MOSCHINI.

This is a really good looking super sailingyacht. She is currently for sale and in pristine condition. Thalia is built by Vitters in 1994 but she looks as new.

I don't know much about Uniwest. She seems to be for sale for a long time for $ 8.600.000,-. Somebody else knows something about her?

At www.boatfinder.com or at www.abyacht.com you can find some specifications and photos of the yacht. She is built in 1991, has a hull made of fibreglass and has a range of 5500 nm.
