A Riva picture

It is not only the Domino that is at the show, the rest of the 'fleet' that was in Monaco is there.

After the important presence at with the Cannes and Monaco boat shows, the Riva fleet moves to Genoa for the 49th edition of the Italian boat show.

The major role is played by the new entry of the family: the 86’ Domino, which registered an immediate success at the French shows winning also an award as BEST DESIGN YACHT in the over 24 metres category at the World Yachts Trophies. Together with it, the other pearls of the Riva collection, ready to enchant as usual the visitors of the kermesse thanks to their unique design: Aquariva Super, Rivarama, Rivale, SportRiva 56’, 63’ Vertigo, 75’ Venere and 92’ Duchessa.

I was at the show today and had a look onboard the new Magellano 74 from the Azimut/Benetti group. Designed by Bill Dixon and Ken Freivokh, she is very different from most other yachts.

She is beamy, 6 meters, and a combination of fast and displacement yacht, with a top speed of 25 knots and cruising 12-21, with a range of 4.000 Nm!

Wow...!

Compared to the standard fare we get from Azimut/Benetti this Magellano looks awesome. This is quite the departure for them. I love it. This yacht's got serious character.

That's the same thing I was thinking. New avatar I see Heston, almost looks like the History Channel's logo.

Another new concept from the Azimut|Benetti group was the Atlantis Verve 36. A walkaround boat with accommodation for 4 and a top speed of up to 40 knots with 2 x Volvo Penta 370 hp.

They also showed the new Azimut 53 Open, very nice interior, and the new 72, which has both a flybridge and a sliding glass roof above the forward part of the salon. She has an impressive top speed of 40 knots.

This year I was more looking for equipment than boats so I didn´t have much time for visiting yachts, but I had a quick tour on the recent Perini 50 meter aluminium ketch, Baracuda. Her dark silver hull and purple sails is different, but the interior is unique for a large sailing yacht I think. The English designer John Pawson has created a true minimalistic style in mainly white colours. More like a design hotel than a yacht, but of course with a fit and finish you only find on superyachts.

The only picture I got was when a small ferry was making a speedy U-turn a couple of feet from her topsides. Must be scary for the Baracuda captain to experience this several times a day...

The pod drives are getting bigger, this is a new design from ZF which looks a little more slippery than the smaller ones.

We have seen the tables coming up from the deck, now Opacmare has a sunbed magically raising by pushing a button.

Well her fenders aren't for style but having a local water taxi flirting with a double figure-million dollar yacht trying to kiss her on the prow is a scary thing!
