Blohm+Voss Golden Odyssey
The "Golden Odyssey" was another milestone (for Blohm+Voss) in the construction of mega yachts. The overall concept was made by the J.F. Platou design office, whilst the exceptionally valuable and unusual interior furnishings in the owner's and passenger accommodation areas were designed by Cabinet Pinto of Paris. The design and assembly of the yacht, however, remained in the sole responsibility of Blohm + Voss.
The hull is of steel, whereas the superstructure is made of aluminium. The propulsion system consists of two KHD diesel engines, each developing 2140 kW and each driving a controllable pitch propeller, producing a ship's speed of 18 knots. The diesel exhaust escapes below the waterline, a remarkable solution for vessels of this size. The latest achievements and standards were used for the mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment. This also applies to the air conditioning plant with which comfortable inside temperatures can be reached even under the most extreme ambient conditions.
