Help! I have a '77, 42' Bertram. I need advice on the proper method on sealing the large fiberglass access cover on the exterior top of the salon. Was there originally a preformed gasket that was attached to the edge of the cover? Right now it is caulked in place with Lifeseal and held down with SS screws. We have traced down all leaks and want to prevent new leaks from damaging new headliner and curtains.

Near as I can tell from pictures I've seen this pannel is only for access to the a/c vents and wires, etc. Nothing you'll be getting into on a regular basis. If that's the case it sounds like you're on the right track. Just make sure you caulk those screws also. I you're wondering about a gasket because of a vibration just pick up some weather seal and slip it in.
