Amels Ilona

I'll post it here; I hope this is the right thread.

Amels Ilona (currently back in the Med.) has had a radical refit.

In stead of the helipad-bay; which was originally on the main deck; Amels has installed a 10m x 3m swimming pool. Bridge deck (2m); owner's deck (4m) and sun deck (helipad) were extended in the process.

She is still a classic beauty and, in my opinion, in a class of her own.

Ilona and 4You

Thanks for your contribution Sam! Yes no worries about where you placed the thread. Wow though at where the helicopter is now. However, I guess they wanted a large pool and instead of building another yacht, you refit the one you currently have. I would like to see pics of this new pool though!

Yeah thank you! I think the extended sundeck looks a bit strange and does not fit to the overall design ... there is no smooth transition.

I was saying that too but I just didn't. That addition damaged her overall lines behind there but I supposed they couldn't do any better because the yacht was designed to have the heli below decks on the aft main deck. So none of the upper aft decks were done with that in mind.

If I remember correctly, weren't the owners contemplating either a refit with their previous yacht or building one significantly smaller and having the helipad placed on the top deck like in the refit? It looks like they finally completed those plans. I don't think the owners wanted a pool as much as they wanted a bigger helicopter and had an unusable void to fill. All the modifications really killed the design. I remember when Ilona was originally build and Amels wanted to lengthen the stern by a meter for the ease of the helicopter storage but that would make the proportions and Amels would not lengthen the bow by two meters to compensate. It just makes me think, what happened here as I think the design looks a lot worse after the modifications.

Hi,
Regardless of aesthetics the heli hanger was a killer so maybe thus was a way for the owner to get over the death of his Chief Engineer on board in the tragic circumstances where it took place.

That video was really nice! The operation isn't as tight as it assumes to be.

Amels has formally delivered the LE180 "4 YOU". Moran announced the delivery as well, she was recently spotted on the Cote d'Azur.
