Fontaine Design and Alloy Yachts collaborate to create the 44-meter "Paraiso"
A collaboration between Fontaine Design, Alloy Yachts and MCM project management have led to the design of a sailing yacht earmarked for 2011. Experienced entities such as these will ultimately lead to a quality yacht once finished. The name of this project is "
Paraiso" and she will be of sloop rigged configuration.
Once completed, Paraiso will stretch 44-meters across the water and feature an overall beam of just under 10-meters. The sloop is envisioned to have a draught of 4.42-meters and will be built at the Alloy Shipyard in New Zealand. Paraiso will be the successor of the smaller 33-meter sloop of the same name also built by Alloy Yachts and designed by Fontaine Design.
Essentially, the 44-meter Paraiso will be expanding upon the owner's previous yacht. Fontaine Design elaborates upon the expansion in the new design. "In the process of being designed for a returning client, Design 1058 expands on his previous yacht by incorporating enlarged crew quarters, a larger galley and more room for toys with a drop down transom and a water-tight garage that can house Laser sailing dinghies, a crew dinghy and diving equipment. A larger tender is housed in an enclosed foredeck well."
Fontaine Design continued to describe many features that will be reincorporated into the 44-meter design. "... the design elaborates on the concept of the owner's previous boat, in particular an enclosed pilothouse cockpit with nav. station, an enhanced helm cockpit with additional seating directly aft of the helm station and a generous aft cockpit accessible via the transom stairway or on deck."
Overseeing the new build will be MCM (Construction Management). MCM has worked with Alloy Yachts many times before hence this project will be a smooth transition. This all aluminum yacht will weigh in at a modest 261 tonnes and carry 63 tonnes of ballast.
Paraiso will be a sailer but clearly the wind will not cooperate everyday. Keeping this in mind, Paraiso will have 1 X C18 Caterpillar E rated 872bhp @ 2200hp engine for auxiliary power. 2 X 55 KW Northern Lights will provide electrical power for the yacht.
Fontaine Design is also responsible for the interior of the Paraiso. "The interior of the yacht features a VIP cabin aft that maintains a king size berth, a desk with sitting area and a large head and shower. There are also two twin cabins that have a full berth outboard and a twin berth inboard, as well as en suite heads. A highlight of the interior is the owner's suite amidships with a king size berth, his and hers heads, as walk-in closet and an exercise locker that can house a spinning bike."
