The forward part of that lift could have failed on its own, but my money would be on a boat's wake lifting, then dropping the Bayliner. That looks like the dock had been in good shape. Not even rust on the nails and the pilings all look secure.

When I lived in Lauderdale the Sentinel ran a story saying there were 5 types of lizard in Florida, none indigenous and none bigger than about 5 inches. They may have missed a few.
