Even today, that's still flying for a 100' boat!
In the late 50's, my parents bought an 85' ASR (Air-Sea-Rescue) hull from the Navy and proceeded to convert it to a private yacht. If I recall, the boat had triple V-12 Packards and was capable of 60 knots. Can't say for sure, I wasn't even a sparkle in my mother's eye yet. But I probably put her through less aggravation in my teenage years than that ASR did in 2 years. They removed the deckhouse, ripped out the Packards, installed twin gas motors and proceeded to build out the interior and a new superstructure. When I think of all that work, I'm glad I wasn't born yet!
