Cathyharbour,
I live in Rio de Janeiro and I'm a sailor too.
Many foreign boats, in Rio de Janeiro, stop in Marina da Gloria.
It's a public marina, where you can dock for a fee.
The manager is Mr. Nelson, that will be pleased to help you with suppliers information and other subjects.
I agree with ReginAniz that Angra dos Reis is a very beautiful bay and it's a must visit. It's the best place for a sailor in Brasil.
In that bay there are several marinas. I suggest Marina Porto Bracuhy.
As a matter of fact that region is a big bay that is divided in 3 bays:
Baia de Sepetiba
Baia da Ribeira
Baia da Ilha Grande
It's a place with many beautiful tropical islands and a green emerald sea color.
Inside the bay the sea is calm.
There are hundreds of great spots to visit, and you can spend months there without becoming bored.
Angra dos Reis is the main town and the bay is best known for that name.
The most charmy town in there is Paraty.
I do not recommend Guaratiba's harbour, that was a suggested by ReginAniz.
It's a charmy little village, but has the inconvenient that it's opened to the southeast winds, that's where the bad weather (storms) come from.
Once, I have been in trouble there.
Best regards
